What To Ask Your Mortgage Broker

There are many questions that you could ask your mortgage broker to understand their services and how they will work for you. Missing important questions, however, could put you at risk. You may not get the best mortgage broker or the best deal on a mortgage.

You want the process of getting a loan to be as painless as possible, and you want the loan to be one that you are happy to live with. All this begins with knowing what to ask your mortgage broker.

What Lenders Does Your Mortgage Broker Deal With And What Commissions Do They Get?

The first part of this question will tell you what type of loans you will have access to through this broker. More than that, this will give you an indication of the number of different loans you will be able to choose from.

You do not want a broker who is too limited in their associations with lending institutions, or you will not really get a good idea of the options that are out there. You may not be offered all the options available, and that could make you pay more down the line.

The second part of the question just lets you know if a mortgage broker gets paid more for securing a loan from a particular lending institution. You want to know if a mortgage broker has your best interests in mind or their own. The differences in commissions may exist for even the mortgage brokers who have your best intentions at heart, but you should be aware of this possible motivation.

Is Your Mortgage Broker A Lender As Well?

If this is the case then once again you may be dealing with a motivation that may not be in your best interest. A mortgage broker who is a lender may try to push their own loan offers on you even if they are not the best choices for your situation.

Their loans could be ideal for you, but you want to know all the facts before you make any decision. Not realizing that your mortgage broker is also a lender who is steering you toward their own loan offers could lead you to making a choice that is not ultimately the best loan for you.

How Does Your Mortgage Broker Do Comparisons On Loans?

You should be able to get a clear answer to this question. Comparing loans is not a simple task, and you should know what criteria your mortgage broker is using to help you select your loan.

You will want to know the specifics because their selection process will decide what loans they recommend to you. If the process is faulty or incomplete then you may very well be facing loan recommendations that are not what you really want.

When you want to know what to ask your mortgage broker, you need to think about every step of the loan process. There are many questions that you could and should ask, and the majority of them will have answers that will guide your decision regarding a loan and regarding your choice of mortgage broker.
